A wearable rainbow dragonfly, 6.5 x 4.5 cm, drawn in gold-tone metal with a body fully paved with small multicolour crystals running from head to tail-tip, and four wings divided into radial stained-glass enamel bands (plum, red, olive green, orange and deep navy). Magnetic clasp, no pin. A more everyday-scale rainbow dragonfly than a 9 cm statement piece, with a colour density that reads well on neutrals and dark wool.

Rainbow dragonfly brooch with paved crystal body and stained-glass enamel wings

This piece is the everyday-scale companion of the larger rainbow dragonfly brooches you may have seen on festival jewellery boards: 6.5 x 4.5 cm, large enough to read on a lapel but not so oversized that it pulls a delicate silk scarf out of shape. The body is a slim gold-tone metal frame fully paved with small round crystals in alternating colours (jet black, deep pink, garnet red, navy and pale lilac) running in a continuous line from the head down through the thorax and along the articulated tail. The four wings are divided by gold-tone metal "leading" into radial stained-glass enamel bands, each band in a saturated jewel-tone (plum, garnet red, olive green, deep orange, deep navy, soft violet), with a small pink crystal accent dropped between the upper-wing centres.

Where this fits among other dragonfly brooches

The wider dragonfly family covers very different design intents. A graphic black-and-silver dragonfly with a single-stone spine reads as evening jewellery and pairs with dark wool tailoring. A 9 cm rainbow dragonfly with feathered ombre wings reads as festival statement, scaled for a long suede coat or a wide-brim hat. This 6.5 cm rainbow piece sits in between: small enough to be a daily wardrobe addition, colourful enough to anchor a neutral outfit. The crystal-paved body is the key compositional difference from larger feathered versions, where the body is usually a smooth gold or silver bar.

Styling: jumper, coat lapel, wool wrap, denim jacket

Three placements where the design really delivers: on the high left side of a cream or ivory jumper, where the rainbow palette pops cleanly; on the lapel of a navy or charcoal wool coat, where the stained-glass enamel reads as a graphic accent against the dark base; on the corner of a wool wrap or a denim jacket collar, where the radial wing pattern catches the eye at close range. For other dragonfly designs with the same magnetic system, see the dragonfly brooches sub-collection; for the wider magnet-only edit, magnetic brooches; for all insect motifs, animal brooches.

Magnetic clasp, no pin to damage knitwear

The brooch is in two parts: a gold-tone metal front holding the entire visible design, and a small disc with two rare-earth magnets for the inside of the fabric. The two snap together through the textile, no pin. The pull handles fabrics up to about 4 mm thick (silk crepe, cashmere knit, light wool coat, denim jacket). The crystal-paved body sits flat against the fabric, so the brooch does not snag knit loops or pull silk threads.

Materials and care

Zinc alloy body with gold-tone plating. Multicolour glass crystals along the body, glued in cups and sealed for stability. Hand-painted enamel for the wing bands in plum, red, olive green, orange and navy, sealed against dust. Store the brooch flat in a soft pouch separate from other metal jewellery, wipe with a dry microfibre cloth, avoid perfume, hairspray and chlorinated water. The magnets keep their pull indefinitely with normal wear.

Frequently asked questions

What does a dragonfly brooch usually symbolise?

The dragonfly is broadly read as a symbol of transformation, adaptability and lightness, with several East Asian traditions adding good fortune and courage. The rainbow palette here adds a softer secondary reading of joy and openness, often making the brooch a popular choice for a celebratory gift.

Will the crystals fall out of the body over time?

The crystals are individually glued into cups and sealed, which is the standard technique in fashion-jewellery pavé. Hard knocks against metal can dislodge a stone over the years, as with any glued-set jewellery; storing the brooch in its own pouch and avoiding heavy contact extends its life considerably.

Is the brooch safe with a pacemaker?

As with any magnetic accessory, we advise customers with a pacemaker, implanted defibrillator or insulin pump to keep the brooch at least 15 cm from the device and to check with their physician before regular use.
