A 6 cm enamel flower brooch that fastens with a magnet

Five petals open around a raised centre, and each one is cut away in the middle so a little of the fabric shows through. The enamel runs through five shades: deep blue, olive green, raspberry, powder pink and lilac, each one faintly marbled. Three small stones punctuate the piece, pink and green out on the curves, blue right at the centre. A gold-tone frame outlines every petal and holds the shape together.

Which fabrics the magnet suits

Behind the flower sits a magnetic disc, and a round counter-plate, dotted around its rim, goes underneath the cloth. The two meet through the fabric, so silk, a fine knit or a chiffon blouse are left unmarked once the brooch comes off. Heavier cloth works as well, though on a felted coat or a tweed jacket it pays to press the counter-plate flat and give the brooch a gentle tug before you head out.
