Open oval drop earrings with a black bar at the top

Three separate pieces make up each earring. A black rectangular bar sits flat against the lobe, a short link of the same colour drops from a cut-out in that bar, and the oval hangs underneath it. Because the oval is open through the centre, the print reads as a band following a curve rather than as a filled panel, and the drop stays long without closing up into a solid shape.

How the print reads once the pair is on

The band carries beige, brown and black markings, denser and broader towards the base of the oval, thinner where the curve draws in near the link. No shiny trim runs along the edge, so the markings carry the whole pair.

What the pair sits against

A charcoal knit, the collar of a white shirt or plain denim all give the markings room to register, and the darker the top, the further forward the beige ground comes. The other pairs cut to fall below the lobe are built on the same idea, with outlines that are rounder, straighter or shorter than this one.

That opening is wide enough to catch a loose thread from knitwear or a strand of hair. Work the thread back out from the inside edge rather than tugging the earring downwards, which puts the whole drop on one narrow point of the rim. There is a practical reason to give that rim some attention: the same markings run through the wider spotted selection, and a scuffed oval shows up straight away beside an untouched one.
