Turn this purse over and the picture changes. The front sets out a small scene, the back drops the figures and keeps the pattern alone, and the two side panels bring in a third texture. Very little of the synthetic outer surface is left plain, which is what gives such a compact object its presence.

Pink hair, pastel houses and handwritten script

On the front, a girl with long pink hair stands with her back turned, facing a row of pale houses. One of them is topped by a rounded turret; bare trees and a pale blue balloon fill the rest of the frame, over a background of faint handwritten script. The palette stays in mauve, dusty pink and grey, so the illustration reads as a drawing rather than a photograph.

A tiled patchwork on the reverse

The back is built from diamond-shaped tiles, each one printed with its own motif in blue, coral, sage and cream. A small woven label sits at the right edge.
