Where the ivory floral choker actually sits

Two photographs, two different pieces of information. The close-up shows the bloom itself: wide fabric petals, slightly creased, in a plain ivory with a pale pink centre that only appears at arm's length. The second shot, taken from above, shows the whole loop, and that is the one worth studying, because the bloom is not centred. It gathers on one half of the wire, which makes the finished piece deliberately lopsided. The wire itself is 40 cm, with a 5 cm extension.

Fabric petals, feathers and a branching gilded wire

Behind the petals sit white feathers, long and tapered, with cut-out lace leaves tucked between them. The gilded wire branches like a stem and carries pearl beads in two sizes plus small faceted crystals. Those crystals do the work a polished surface would normally do, since the fabric itself stays matte. If you would rather a bloom sat lower on the chest, the longer pieces in the ceremony selection do that instead.

The lace you only notice up close

From a couple of steps away the lace reads as shadow. Hold the piece and it becomes a second layer of pattern, which is what keeps the bloom from looking flat against the feathers. It is also the detail that shows up in close photographs and disappears entirely in wide ones.

Wearing it to a wedding, as bride or as guest

Ivory and off-white sit naturally against a bridal dress, and the piece holds up just as well over a beige suit. The thing worth settling in advance is the side: an off-centre bloom reads differently depending on which shoulder it falls towards, so it is worth turning it round once in front of a mirror before the day itself. Natural wood and ivory are close enough in tone that a folding fan with a wooden frame reads as part of the same set.

What this one needs that a metal necklace does not

Damp air and pressure are what harm it, not scratches. Wide, flat storage is more or less the whole of the maintenance: give the feathers room and they keep their shape. In short, it asks for the care you would give a fabric flower, not the care you would give a chain.
