    A schoolbag silhouette cut down to city size. The body is mustard faux leather, the flap is edged with a cream cross-stitch braid, and the tabs and applied front pockets are dark brown. White topstitching runs along every edge, and the aged brass-tone hardware picks up the warmth of the mustard.

    It measures 27x7.50x18 cm, with a rigid top handle and an adjustable detachable strap included. Under the flap the main section closes on its own zip; two applied pockets sit on the front and a zipped pocket runs across the back.

    Vintage mustard and brown satchel bag with a boxed, flat-based body

    Why does this satchel look so square from every angle? Because it is built like a small case rather than a soft pouch. The base is flat, the corners are square, the side walls rise straight, and the flap folds over a hard top edge instead of draping. Nothing about the shape is borrowed from a slouch bag.

    What a flat base changes on a bag this size

    Set it down on a desk and it sits level, so the opening stays where you left it and you are not holding the bag with one hand while searching it with the other. A notebook stays flat in the bottom corner too, instead of curling the way it does in a rounded shape. All of that shows in the upright, boxed profile you see from the side.

    What the photographs show

    Every fitting on this satchel is visible from the outside, so nothing here is guesswork. Two brown tabs drop from the flap onto round press studs; the buckles above them, in aged brass tone, are mounted on the same tabs. A second closure sits underneath: a full-width zip under the flap, closing the main section on its own.

    Changing the strap, changing the bag

    The strap that comes with it unclips at both ends, which turns one bag into two. Carried by the handle alone the satchel reads as a small case; on a long strap it becomes an everyday cross-body. If you want the second look in another colour, a swap-in strap in printed cloth takes the same clasps.
