A navy canvas bag carried on the shoulder

The straps are cut from the same canvas as the body and folded into flat bands. They pass through large silver metal eyelets set into camel synthetic panels at each top corner, so the weight sits on the eyelet rather than on a stitched seam. The drop is long enough to wear the bag on the shoulder, though gathering both bands together turns it into a hand carry. A camel tab of the same material finishes the bottom of the front panel.

42x39cm, with the mouth as the widest part

The bag measures 42x39cm, but the figure that changes daily use is the one at the top. The opening is wider than the base, so what you put in stays in view instead of sliding into a corner you then have to dig through. A rounded base and soft, unstructured sides do the rest: set the bag down empty and it settles into a low heap, fill it and it stands up again. Pockets, zips and everyday sorting

The main compartment closes with a zip. Inside, zipped pockets take whatever needs to stay put, while flat patch pockets hold a phone, a card holder or paperwork. Two outside side pockets catch the things you grab without opening the bag at all. Beyond that the bag does not impose an order on you, because soft canvas takes the shape of whatever goes in first.

The printed star and what circles it

The star sits almost edge to edge across the front, and its five points are speckled with small dark marks rather than filled in solid white. Around it runs a ring of white capitals: PRODOTTO, VINTAGE 1978, ITALIA, then STELLA below the lower point, with two small filled stars separating the words at the top of the circle. The ink breaks up slightly the way screen printing does. Nothing else is printed on the bag.

Washed navy next to camel

The canvas was washed before the bag was made, so the navy is uneven: darker in the folds, lighter where the fabric pulls flat, and it shifts again under daylight. That is what gives the bag its already-worn look from the first day. The camel corners break up the blue at the two points where the straps meet the body. Brush a washed canvas dry rather than scrubbing it, and keep the brush away from the print, since rubbing lifts the pigment around the edges of the star.
