The star is printed, not stitched

The white star sits inside a ring of lettering, and both are printed onto the washed canvas rather than sewn on or embroidered. Run a hand over it and the surface stays flat. That matters for two reasons: the motif adds no weight and no seams to the front panel, and it needs a gentler hand at cleaning time than a stitched badge would.

There are two ways to hold it. The short handles, riveted onto camel tabs, sit high enough to clear a coat sleeve when you carry the bag in the crook of your arm. The long strap detaches and adjusts at the D-rings, which shifts the bag onto the shoulder for a commute or a market run. Four metal fittings punctuate the canvas. The pair of D-rings on the sides takes the strap. The pair of clips at the bottom hooks onto the lower corners and draws the base in, so the bag stands a little taller when it is carrying almost nothing. Unclip them and the canvas falls open again, widening the whole silhouette.

Nearly square, and generous in both directions. The height means a folder or a laptop sleeve goes in upright instead of on the diagonal, and the width leaves room beside it for a water bottle. Because nothing stiffens the panels, the bag also takes bulky, awkward items that a rigid shape would refuse. One zip, and it is on the back

The zipped pocket across the whole back is the one you will reach for standing up. It lies flat against you, so a phone, a travel card or a set of keys stays findable without opening the main bag. The sides fold into gussets edged in camel; they spread as the bag fills and settle back once it empties.

Canvas care, and why leather cream is the wrong idea

Blot the canvas with a barely damp cloth and let it dry in open air, away from a radiator. Go lighter still over the star, since a print dulls as soon as it is rubbed. The camel parts want a dry cloth and nothing else. Leather cream has no fibre to sink into here, so it simply sits on the surface and eventually cracks it. Store the bag lightly filled rather than folded, and the canvas will not keep a crease in the same place.
