    Two ways to carry a burgundy and midnight blue bag

    Start with the handles: two short slate-grey straps sit on stitched tabs, sized for the hand or the crook of the arm. When that stops being convenient, a removable, adjustable shoulder strap clips onto the side rings with two gold-tone snap hooks, and the slider buckle takes care of the drop. Both are the same slate grey, so neither looks bolted on.

    The flap curves into an arch and hands the whole surface over to an illustration: a blue-haired figure walking across a yellow moon-glow, a small cat beside her, planets and shooting stars hanging above a faint skyline. Behind her the background slides from burgundy through purple into blue, and white contrast stitching outlines the edge. The starred panel and the marbled burgundy side finish the picture.     Constellations and a treble clef on the back

    Turn the bag round and the design keeps going. A second arched panel, this one blue-violet, maps out constellations in thin joined lines with white and gold stars between them. It doubles as a zipped pocket on the back, and the pull carries a small treble clef charm in the same aged gold as the rest of the hardware.

    One long zip runs the width of the opening, its pull weighted with a hanging charm. Underneath, a printed midnight blue lining repeats the cosmic vocabulary of the outside rather than defaulting to plain black, and a zipped pocket along one wall keeps cards and keys away from everything else.     Wearing the burgundy and the midnight blue

    These two colours are easier to place than they look. Burgundy sits happily against camel, grey and navy; the midnight blue panel gives the illustrated front flap a calmer setting, and the gold hardware picks up whatever else you are wearing in that tone.
