A closed five-finger glove in matt black suede, worn under a ribbed knit cuff that reaches from the wrist to the base of the fingers.
The cuff is not fixed in place: slide it up the forearm, or push it down towards the knuckles. The thumb comes through an opening cut in the knit, and the top edge of the cuff turns back on itself. One size.
Nothing on this pair is printed, and nothing contrasts. The glove underneath is cut from a matt suede with rounded fingertips and no visible topstitching; the cuff above it is knitted in wide, slightly wavy ribs. Both are the same black, which leaves the ribbing to do the work of telling them apart.
The knit does not simply stop at the top. The upper edge folds back on itself, so the opening reads as a double thickness and the ribs end on a clean line instead of a raw one. It is the only piece of finishing visible anywhere on the cuff.
Pull a sleeve down over the pair and most of the knit disappears. What stays in view is the suede: four fingers, the thumb, and the back of the hand once the cuff has been pulled up the arm. One fingertip carries the only decoration on the pair, a small flower embroidered in pale grey: the single point where the black lets up. There is more for cold weather in what the glove section holds for winter.

On the bus, on the school run, between a car and a front door, only the cuff moves: the fingers stay covered by suede throughout. If you would rather leave them out altogether, the pairs that stop at the knuckles are one section across. What this pair adds is the option of doing neither, and changing your mind halfway down the street.
