    Five separate black fingers, a plain knit, and then a cuff that changes everything: a white Greek key runs across the back of the hand and carries on to the wrist.

    That cuff can be left long against the forearm or folded back on itself, which brings the striped edge up onto the back of the hand and puts two thicknesses around the wrist.

    Two ways to wear the cuff

    The cuff is the part that decides how these look. Pull it down and it covers the forearm, hidden under a coat sleeve until the arm lifts and the key motif shows. Turn it back on itself and it stops at the wrist, striped edge upward on the back of the hand, with two thicknesses where there was one. Changing your mind costs a flick of the other hand, so the decision can wait until you are out of the door.

    The glove itself stays plain: five separate fingers, knitted black, nothing across them. Everything decorative begins past the knuckles, where the white key motif takes over and carries on to the end of the cuff. Hooked shapes alternate row by row, each one reversing the one above, so the band reads as movement rather than as simple repetition.     Where the knit changes

    Follow the knit upward from the fingertips and it stays tight and single-coloured until a ribbed black band, after which it thickens into two-colour work across the full width. That band is the hinge: in the photographs the cuff turns at exactly that point. The very end is left to a band of fine white stripes, set apart from the motif, and they stop the pattern cleanly.
