Two pieces sit on the same hand. The lower one is a suede glove with five closed fingers, cut narrow, with rounded tips and clear seams running between them. Over it comes a knitted mitt that reaches from the base of the fingers to the forearm, with an opening for the thumb to pass through. The ribbed knit is a heathered mid grey, while the suede underneath is plainer and a shade lighter.

Nothing to measure before you buy

Gloves are awkward to buy for somebody else, because hands differ and few people know their own glove size. That question does not come up here: the pair is made in one size only, and the give sits in the knit rather than in the seams. Whoever wears them settles the rest by sliding the mitt further up the forearm or pushing it back down towards the fingers.

The questions a gift usually raises

A present that has to be tried on is a present that may come back. This one leaves very little to guess: no length to check, no half size to hesitate over, and a shade that does not announce itself. The only visible flourish is a small embroidered flower in a darker grey, placed on one index fingertip, where it stays in view because the fingers are never covered by the knit.

Some people simply prefer their fingers out and nothing underneath, in which case a knitted pair to give instead is the safer choice. If the person you have in mind wears a closed glove all winter, there are other pairs to choose from before you decide.
