A feather charm, and a strap that stays flat

Two details do a lot of work on this wallet. A metal feather charm hangs from the slider and gives you something to hold when the wallet is shut. The strap is stitched flat to the side rather than dangling, so the wallet stays in your grip while you pay or fish out your keys.

Tan, burgundy and dark green all take it without a fight; the brown underneath is what makes that easy. Against a plain dark bag, the printed front becomes the one piece of colour you see. Against a bag that is already busy, keep it inside and let only the strap show. The surface is synthetic and wipes clean with a barely damp cloth, printed areas included, as long as you do not scrub them.

A patchwork back, and a painted front

The back does something else entirely. Small printed squares sit edge to edge, florals, paisleys and arabesques over a wood-grain effect, in soft blues, greys and creams with a few red notes. A brown band closes the bottom edge and carries the brand's metal plate.
