A woven straw wallet whose only solid black is the tassel

Hold it at arm's length and the whole thing reads as one warm neutral. Come closer and the black separates out: a handful of dark strands caught in the weave, then the tassel on the pull, which is the one piece of unbroken black on the wallet. Even its metal cap turns gold rather than dark. Everything else stays in the beige, ecru and khaki family, and the data sheet lists the colour as multicoloured.

No two bands carry quite the same mix

The chevrons run horizontally, one row stacked on the next, and none repeats its neighbour exactly. One leans olive, the next pushes ecru forward, a third lets a silver-grey strand catch the light. That drift is what keeps the surface from looking printed, and it shows best when the piece is held up against the other wallets on the same shelf.

Camel tape, gold-toned teeth

The trim stays in the same warm register. Gold-toned metal teeth sit on a camel tape that follows the outline of the wallet, so the edge reads as part of the weave rather than as hardware bolted on. Run the zip open and the inside turns dark: a black lining edge to edge, split by a central panel into two flat compartments, with a camel face left visible along one flank. Nothing beyond that is documented. Across the four photographs there is no zipped coin pocket and no cut card slot to be seen.

Where it sits among the straw wallets

Straw usually arrives with the summer and leaves with it. A neutral one does not. A format this flat, with no dominant tone, carries into autumn without looking out of season, and it survives the move from a beach bag to a work tote without a second thought. That puts it at the quiet end of the shelf, alongside the other small pieces that live in a bag.

Brushing, not wiping

Straw takes badly to water and to hard rubbing. A dry brush worked along the weave lifts the dust that settles between the strands, and storing the wallet flat, away from a radiator, keeps the weave from loosening.
