A light grey silicone watch that stays on all day

Nothing here shouts. The grey of the strap is clean, only just warmed towards sand, which is why it goes with black, navy or camel without your having to think about it. The silicone is light on the wrist, and the round case lies flat rather than perches on top of it.

Reading the dial and its three counters

The dial is a shade warmer and deeper than the strap, with a sunray finish that catches the light differently as you turn your wrist. Three bold black numerals mark 12, 4 and 8; at the remaining hours, square crystal markers pick up the sparkle of the bezel. The Ernest name is printed below the 12, and the crown is at 3.

What each counter shows

One counter carries the days of the week in abbreviated form; the other two carry numbered scales. They are spaced around the centre without crowding the hands.

The crystal-set bezel and the silver-coloured case

The bezel is set right round with clear crystals, and that one detail is what makes the watch read as dressy rather than sporty. The case behind it is plain and silver-coloured, broken only by the crown.

Strap, buckle and sizing

Two grooves run the length of the strap, and near the lugs the silicone is divided into segments, rather like a chain bracelet. You size it on a row of punched holes, and it closes with a silver-coloured pin buckle with a keeper loop to hold the tail.
