Hold the pair up to the light and each lens splits in two. The upper half is a purple-grey that keeps most of the glare out; the lower half turns pink and lets a good deal more through. Between them there is no drawn line, only a band where the two tones meet, and it falls at the same height left and right, so the change crosses the pair in one line.

The gap under the bar

The bridge is a single straight bar, set high across the top of the two rims and carrying the same chain relief as the arms. Beneath it, between the rims, no metal runs at all. Light goes through that opening, which is why the front reads as a line drawn along the top rather than a piece filling the middle. Nothing else holds the frame on the nose: two translucent pads do that work, each on a thin gold stem screwed onto its rim.

Piece by piece, up close

The close-ups confirm what the front view suggests. The rims themselves are smooth, with nothing cut into them: the chain belongs to the bar and to the arms, which are ribbons of flat metal rather than round wire. Each arm turns on a small block with the screw head showing, then finishes in a long curved black tip, the only part of the pair that is neither gold-coloured nor see-through.

Where this pair sits well

The gold stays in thin lines here and the lower half of each lens is light, so the pair does not take over a face. It works on something plain, where the pink has room to show, and on black, where the metal is the only thing that catches the light. Shape is hard to judge from memory, and it is worth putting the fronts built around a different bridge next to this one before choosing.

Pushed up onto the head instead of left on the nose, the pair lies against whatever is already pinned underneath, flat arms first. A flat fastening takes that weight better than a raised one, and a low comb that leaves an even surface keeps the arms from riding off it.
