The front gives you black and nothing else: a glossy rectangle with clipped corners, a short solid bridge and two lenses of one flat dark tone.
A ringed gold-tone disc, flanked by two fluted loops, runs along the outside of each temple and never shows from the front.
Nothing on the front announces it. The face of the frame is one uninterrupted black, the bridge short and solid, and the lenses show a single dark tone with no lighter zone at the bottom. The motif only comes into view once the pair is turned, roughly where the temple is at its widest, which is also the one place on the frame with enough flat surface to hold it. If the shade of the frame settles it for you before the shape does, it is worth seeing how the frames are grouped by colour across the selection.
The disc is not a print. It stands slightly proud of the temple, ringed from the centre outwards, and those ridges take the light at a different angle from the polished black around them. On either side of it, a small rectangular loop is fluted the same way. The three pieces stop at the outer face: from the inside, the temple is black with a round boss where the disc is fixed.
| Front | Glossy black, elongated rectangle with the corners clipped off |
|---|---|
| Lenses | Dark, the same depth of tint top to bottom |
| Bridge | Short and solid, continuing the line of the front |
| Temples | Broad at the hinge, tapering to a rounded tip |
| Motif | Ringed disc between two upright fluted loops |
| Position | Outer face of both temples, just past the hinge |
The decoration rides high, level with the eyes and close to the hair, so anything that answers it works better when it stays in that upper band. A warm metal tone on the wrist drops out of sight the moment the arms come down; the same tone on a collar or a lapel stays in view while you are talking. For that, there are pieces that hold with a magnet instead of a pin, so nothing goes through the cloth.
