What one lifted corner does to the whole front

Most fronts are drawn as a single closed curve. This one is not. The top rim leaves the bridge on an almost straight line, keeps it all the way across the lens, and turns upwards only at the very end, where the temple is fixed. That one change of direction is what earns the pair its butterfly name; it is also why the outline looks tilted rather than rounded.

The lower half never answers it. It closes the lens on one wide even curve that owes nothing to what happens above, so the rim you read along the top and the rim you read underneath belong to two separate drawings held together at the corner.

Colour arrives after the shape, and it arrives in a fixed order: a fine red line directly below the black top rim, then the whole lower rim in red, then the entire inner face, bridge to temple, with no black left on it at all.

Wearing a front that points upwards

An upswept front carries the eye sideways, so it does most of the work on its own. Hair off the face leaves the corner visible, which is the point of buying this shape at all; a fringe half covers it. The red shows in narrow amounts and in places that are hard to match, so a red worn elsewhere will sit beside it rather than answer it. The temples stay out of the argument: a plain gold-coloured rod, no pattern, no width, widening only at the very end into a flat tip.
