Open the temples and the pair changes character. Folded flat, it is all print; opened out, a flat band catches the light on the wide section of each temple, just past the hinge.
Seen head on, the rim is what registers first: the same thick rim of tortoiseshell runs unbroken around both lenses, warm brown flecked with orange.
Everything on the front is wide. The rim keeps its thickness all round, the corners are squared, then eased off, and the bridge is short enough to leave almost no gap between the two lenses. The brown gradient lenses are deepest along the top edge and lighten as they drop, ending close to honey at the lower rim.
The tortoiseshell covers the front and carries on along both temples, so the pattern never breaks at the hinge. It gives way in one place only. Count the band and you have the whole detail: two upright bars splitting three smooth panels, the lot held inside a fine dotted outline. Because that band sits on the temple and not on the front, it belongs to the side view alone; face on, there is nothing to see but print.
| Front | Wider than it is tall, rim the same thickness all round |
|---|---|
| Lenses | Deepest at the top edge, close to honey at the bottom |
| Bridge | Short, leaving almost no gap |
| Temples | Broad at the hinge, narrowing to a rounded tip |
| Band | Dotted outline, two upright bars, three dark panels |
| Colour | Brown |
The frame is broad, so the rest can afford to be quiet. Denim and cream carry it easily; a second animal print anywhere on the outfit does not. If brown is not where you want the attention, the clear and coloured frames sit in the same section.
Loose hair falls straight over that stretch of temple and hides the band. Sweeping it back is the simplest fix, and a clip or a slide to hold it back does the job without adding a second ornament next to the first.
